Ground has officially been broken on the first phase of the Bilbohall affordable housing development in Elgin.
Phase one will provide 28 affordable homes at the end of Edgar Road, including 16 one-bedroom cottage flats and 12 two-bedroom accessible apartments with balconies and lift access. The homes are expected to be completed in Autumn 2027.
The project forms part of the wider Bilbohall Masterplan, identified in the Moray Local Development Plan 2020 as an important area for the sustainable expansion of Elgin.
The homes are being developed by Ogilvie Construction on behalf of Moray Council, with support from the Scottish Government.
The first phase will also deliver key shared infrastructure needed to support future phases of development on the wider site, such as roads, paths, electrical supply upgrades and drainage. Once complete, the wider Bilbohall site will deliver a total of 215 homes, constructed in phases. The next phase of development include proposals for supported housing for people with learning disabilities.
Councillor Amber Dunbar, Chair of Moray Council’s Housing and Community Safety Committee said: “Breaking ground at Bilbohall marks a significant milestone in meeting affordable housing needs in Elgin. The new homes will provide high-quality, accessible accommodation for local people while also paving the way for future development across the wider site.”
