Extension to George Hotel

Ogilvie, undertook the construction of a six storey extension to the George Hotel in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre.  The extension comprised of 50 high quality bedrooms with an executive meeting area at the 6th floor level and space at ground floor level for a gym/spa facility.  We were required to break through to the existing hotel to complete the extension, and undertook alterations and refurbishments with the existing hotel to create a further 5 high quality bedrooms, at the client’s request.

There were significant challenges associated with the project, due to the works location and the restricted space.  We made use of a tower crane during the shell construction period which was positioned in the lift shaft.  We were required to set up a lane closure on Thistle Street to provide space for materials to be delivered to the drop-off area for the crane.  We ensured the hotel remained fully operational throughout the works.
